The aim of this part of the project has been to produce web pages that can assist members of the public and professionals in key aspects of rehabilitation. The time that a professional is able to spend with an individual is always going to be limited by the availability of trained professionals and the cost of their time. So our web service is designed to support, but not replace, any time that a person spends with a professional, such as an audiologist. In this way, it is hoped that the overall quality of rehabilitation can be improved.
Some of the things provided for members of the public are:
- Information about deafness and hearing devices.
- 'HearCompanion' - a unique step-by-step user guide to understanding the process of having your hearing tested, getting hearing aids (if needed), and all the other forms of support that can help you
- Information about other listening equipment.
- Information for family members.
Some of the things provided for professionals within the HearCom pages are:
- Up-to-date information about rehabilitation procedures used across Europe.
- Newly designed tests that can be used with patients in various stages of rehabilitation.
- Various other professional resources, including signal enhancement techniques and models of adverse acoustic conditions.
Although the project formally ends in February 2009, HearCom partners intend to maintain this site and update the information whenever possible.
